Unseasonably hot weather for the 2016 SpringFest Fun Run/Walk kept the attendance down, but didn’t cool the enthusiasm. An earlier start and the quick addition of an aid station helped to make the event more than tolerable for the runners and walkers, and the White Salmon Pool being open for showers and a cool dip afterward just added to the enjoyment.
There were 80 registered runners and walkers, not bad considering the dire weather forecasts during the week before. With participants, volunteers, music, and all the preparations, the registration area was busy from its 9AM opening until the 10AM start of the 5K and 10K.. Then it got busy again as the first 5K runners returned after only 20 minutes or so., The 1K started early at 10:30 to help beat the heat, and because everyone doing it were already there anyhow.
An extra aid/water station dispatched to the confluence of the two 5K routes was a big hit with most of the runners and walkers, giving them a big boost for the last leg to the finish line. After everyone was back and socialized a bit, many headed off to the White Salmon pool for showers and a cooling dip. Many also came back for the SpringFest activities, including the Gorge Discovery Center raptor show that immediately followed the fun run.
Many thanks to our sponsors who supported this great community event: Skyline Hospital, Bell Design, Centerpointe Bank, Kula Chiropractic, Pacific Rim Brokers, Radcomp, US Auto Care, Riverview Bank, Umpqua Bank.
We hope to see cooler weather and for many more to join us next year!
